Portuguese colonialists introduced cocoa to S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9, a tropical island of West Africa in the 1850s, thirty years after they had successfully cultivated Brazilian cocoa in the neighboring island Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n<p>The flavor we have chosen to go with S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 beans is a Nordic one\u2014spruce sprouts.
