Description
This chocolate box is a celebration of the captivating artistry of Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954), one of Estonia’s most renowned artists. Featuring a reproduction of his masterpiece “Family of Lions” (1949), this box pays tribute to his exceptional talent in capturing the beauty and majesty of the animal kingdom. Known for his exceptional skills in graphic art, drawing, and painting, Wiiralt studied art in Estonia and Germany, where he was influenced by the Expressionist movement. Wiiralt’s works often depict fantastical, mythological, or exotic themes, infused with a sense of darkness, mystery, and sensuality. His art was banned during the Soviet era in Estonia, and his name was erased from art history textbooks. However, his works continued to circulate underground and were rediscovered after Estonia regained its independence in 1991. He is buried in the division 88 of Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, next to the French painter, Marie Laurencin (1883-1956).
